Pride is a pretty big deal across Europe, with many countries hosting several different events and celebrations throughout the year. If you fancy checking out what our European cousin’s have to offer book a couple of flights, treat yourself to a swanky hotel and get prepared to celebrate all things pride Euro Style.  Why not hang out in Holland or get your gay on in Greece. If you like it long then embrace the absolute marathon of gay celebrations in Belgium, lasting almost three weeks or head to Spain to celebrate with 2,000,000 others in Madrid.

 

Belgian Pride 2018

The Belgian Pride association was created in 1996 and has seen it’s name changed from the rather catchy “Belgian Lesbian and Gay Pride Pink Saterday Samedi Rose” to  “Belgian Lesbian and Gay Pride” or BLGP. After almost 25 years of pride, the event has gone from seeing 2,000 visitors to well over 100,000. The celebration is held in the capital of Belgium, Brussels every year and is an absolute marathon of celebration. The main weekend is from the 17th – 20th May with the main pride parade and village taking place on the 19th May.

 

MADO Madrid Gay Pride 2018

Spain’s MADO Madrid Gay Pride is one of the biggest in Europe, with over two million people attending to support and celebrate the rights of the LGBT community. This years festivities start of June 28th and finish ten days later on July 8th. The parade is held on the 7th July starting at Atocha Station, passing through the Paseo del Prado and finishing up a Colon. Madrid promises activities, performance, dance, clubs as well as glorious food and drinks all week long.

Sofia Pride 2018

Bulgarian’s have been hosting pride events since 2007 is expected to attract over 5,000 people. The Bulgarian Pride isn’t as big as it’s neighbours events, but who said bigger is better? As long as the company is half decent and the alcohol flows, that’s all that matters hey? Sofia Pride’s motto  is ‘Different People, Equal Rights’. Amen to that.

Zagreb Pride 2018

Croatia is one place everyone needs to visit full of culture and packed with beauty. This year the capital city of Croatia is welcoming it’s 16th Pride Parade. Zagreb pride is all about combating oppression based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

Prague Gay Pride 2018

Prague Pride is run by volunteers, who operate on a non-governmental/political/profit basis. Prague Pride co ordinators are passionate about promoting ‘tolerant civil society, fight against homophobia and increase public awareness of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community in the Czech Republic’. Yes. This is more than just a parade, be prepared for concerts, workshops, theatre, exhibitions, film, lectures, discussions and dance parties.

 

Copenhagen Gay Pride 2018

Copenhgaen Pride attracts over 20,000 visitors each year and is run by a committed and dedicated board of volunteers. If you want, put your name forward to help out for this years Pride, you can do that by checking out the page on volunteering at Copenhagen Gay Pride. Most of the events are held in and around the Town Hall Square with some additional parties being held across the city.

 

Helsinki Pride 2018

Helsinki Pride celebrates diversity and human rights, which is one of the biggest events in Finland. The event has tripled in size and is reliant on the support and dedication of volunteers to help it be such a huge success. Expect the three P’s: parades, picnics and parties.

 

Paris Gay Pride + Marche des Fiertés

Ah, Gay Pari. One of France’s biggest LGBT celebrations comes to the capital on the 30th June. Around half a million people come into the city to celebrate each year which makes Paris Gay Pride + Marche Des Fiertes one of the biggest worldwide celebration of all things LGBT. Plus you get to check out the world class wine and selfie opportunities.

 

Berlin Gay Pride 2018 – CSD Berlin

Germany, like the UK, has multiple pride events throughout the year at different locations, but Berlin is the biggest of them all. This years event takes place a week after the Lesbian and Gay Stafest and starts at Kurfürstendamm street the last Saturday in July. The celebrations continue to strive for equal rights and same- sex marriage, as well as incorporating a huge parade, mini street festivals and party locations across the capital .

Athens Pride 2018

The 9th June hosts Athen’s pride event, which takes place in the heart of the city. Athen’s Pride has been running for over twenty years and aims to promote equality through communication and education. 20 years ago the LGBT community joined together for a picnic and gained momentum since, with pride expanding to a whole weekend in 2011.

Budapest Pride 2018

Budapest is the host of Hungary’s biggest LGBT celebration, spanning over ten whole days from 3rd – 12th July. This year’s Pride Parade is scheduled for Saturday, July 11th, beginning at Kossuth tér and winding it’s way through the city centre. Following the parade is a chance to get your picnic out in City Park, whilst listening to live music, performances and speeches.

Dublin LGBTQ Pride 2018

A little closer to home is Dublin’s Pride event which draws in crowds of around 30,000, since it’s birth in 1983 founders have strived to achieve equality and acceptance between all communities. This year the parade assembles from 11am and departs from Stephen’s Green at 2:00pm before heading through the city towards Smithfield. Prepare yourself for two hours of music and speeches from 12-2pm followed by a whole lot of Guinness.

Tel Aviv Pride 2018

Israel is becoming one of the hot spot holiday destinations for the LGBT community and this year marks the 21st Pride celebration. Things kick off early around 10am, in Me’ir Park (Gan Me’ir) with music, drag shows and speeches. The parade, then hot foots from the garden through the streets of Tel Aviv towards Charles Clore beach, where the beach party gets going from 3pm till the sun sets.

Rome Gay Pride 2018

Calling all culture vultures. If you’ve not been to Rome, the time is neigh. Now is the chance to visit all of the tourist haunts as well as being part of the huge pride festival which welcomes thousands of visitors each year. The parade starts off at Piazza della Repubblica and ends at Piazza Venezia, passing several significant, historical buildings and landmarks. Don’t forget to head to Muccassassina which hosts one of the biggest Pride parties of the season, get their early to prevent FOMO.

GayMat – Luxembourg Pride 2018

Luxembourg Pride (also known as GayMat.. obvs) hosts an action packed nine day festival in Esch-sur-Alzette, showcasing films, comedy and more. The celebrations begin with a women’s party on July 7 in the city of Luxembourg and follows with a spectacular opening ceremony.

Amsterdam Gay Pride 2018

Why not catch the train to Amsterdam from London and experience how the dutch celebrate all things pride this summer. Amsterdam’s Gay Pride is huge, with half a million people getting together to celebrate over the course of a week, from street parties to parties at the beach. The main attraction is the parade, which follows the cities canal path, commencing from Amstel towards Prinsengracht and starts at 12:30pm.

Oslo Gay Pride 2018

Norway’s capital city Oslo hosts the countries largest celebration of love and diversity. The ten day festival is planned by 80 volunteers and welcomes almost 80,000 visitors and allows people to be ‘exactly who they are’. The main attractions to Oslo’s pride event is the pride house, park and parade. In addition there’s plenty of other shizzay to do, including workshops, themed nights and lots of live music.

 

Lisbon Gay Pride 2018 – Marcha do Orgulho LGBT

If Portugal takes your fancy, head on over this year and say a huge ‘Olá’ to Lisbon, hosting this years Gay Pride and Political event. Each year event organisers switch up themes to keep things current with a focus on a political message reflecting the experiences of the LGBT community. This year the parade kicks off from 5pm at Jardim do Príncipe and continues through the city. The following weekend there’s an epic Pride Party, from 4 pm until 4 am, at the Lisbon Pride Village (Arraial Lisboa Pride) with DJ’s, expo’s and gay bars.

Zurich Gay Pride 2018

‘Same love = Same rights’. Swizerland’s three day pride event is going down mid June with the parade on the Saturday. Zurich during pride is full of entertainment booths, events and parties. Expect fun times, good vibes and some great food and drink.
