So long, fair well, auf wiedersehen, Uber…
London bid a teary goodbye to Uber last week, don’t make this a tough break up, let’s provide you with a few rebound options that might turn into a long term relationship.
So when the clock strikes 12 and you haven’t got a pumpkin to take you home what do you do?
Don’t panic! We have some alternatives for you here;
They’re mega cheap as you won’t be travelling at peak times, and if you’re lucky enough to live close to one of the stations stops along the way, this is a pretty good alternative to a taxi. Although if you are planning on doing some night time drinking that doesn’t fall on a Friday or a Saturday you won’t be able to get a tube home late. A little side note to the people of TFL, Londoners and non-Londoners alike actually drink during the week too, maybe you should look into extending the days of the week. Haven’t you heard that Tuesday is the new Wednesday?
Here’s a list below where you can get a night tube and which tube lines run;
Victoria line – Every 10 minutes and spans across the whole line, from Brixton to Walthamstow Central , Oxford Circus is on this line so if you go out in Soho…you’re laughing (suggest you don’t do said laughing on your own)
Central line – Every 10 minutes between White City and Leytonstone and approximately every 20 minutes between Ealing Broadway to White City and Leytonstone to Loughton/ Hainault. So if you live in deepest darkest East you can still make it in and out of London without having to spend all your drinking money on your ride home.
No service between North Acton and West Ruislip, Loughton and Epping and Woodford and Hainault
Jubilee line – Trains run on average every 10 minutes ALL over the line. Win.
Northern line – Trains run on average every 8 minutes between Morden and Camden Town and approximately every 15 minutes from Camden Town to High Barnet / Edgware.
Although there is no service on the Mill Hill East and Bank branches, so you won’t be able to go out in wanky bank…what a shame…
Piccadilly line – Or as some people like to say Piccawilly…not us though, its not our vibe…..Trains run on average every 10 minutes between Cockfosters and Heathrow Terminal 5, so if you have an early morning flight to those far away countries then you’ll be just fine.
No service on the Terminal 4 loop, or between Acton Town and Uxbridge.
So if you want a really, really cheap way to get yourself back in that dreamy bed then go no further than the night bus. You might meet some ‘interesting’ people on there too…..
If any of these buses are on your route home, you’re in luck – 24 hours a day on Friday and Saturday: 34, 114, 123, 145, 158, 183, 296, 307, 319, E1, H32, W3 and W7.
If you want a speedy journey home though we don’t recommend you get a bus if you live miles away from the club you’ve just stumbled out of, as they don’t run very frequently (unlike the night tube) they run twice an hour through the night, with W7 running three times an hour. If you get a night tube however and then need to get a bus tfl have an extensive network of night buses to and from Night Tube stations.
Here’s a helpful night bus map for all the routes in case you don’t know which one would get you home from the helpful list above…Night bus maps are available for all routes – just enter the route or area you are interested in to see where night services are available.
Download the app, the pricing is fixed so no price surge at random times in the night unlike Uber, so just make sure you got enough in your account to get home before the night begins and you’re sorted! Also if you’re planning on doing an Irish goodbye you can pre-book and sneak off before anyone starts trying to convince you to stay…
It also means that if you don’t fancy sharing your journey with loads of strangers or your mate is so fucked you can’t drag them onto the tube you can get a bit of comfort in an Addison Lee (just take some plastic bags so you don’t get charged for cleaning after your mates dinner re-appears)
Others we haven’t tried or tested (you’re on your own there) but have heard good things….
So go forth and enjoy London and all it has to offer you beautiful people.
If you’re going to make use of the above, how about visiting some of these cocktail bars
