Get ready to swoon; the CW has finally announced the casting of Batwoman for their upcoming Arrowverse crossover and a potential standalone series. The spectacular super-heroine is to be played by none other than the lovely Ruby Rose!
Rose confirmed her role only recently saying “This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on tv and felt alone and different”. Now Rose is living the dream bringing an openly lesbian Batwoman out into the world.
Batwoman was originally added to the comics to stave off accusations of that Batman was a corrupting gay influence. This first iteration of Kate Kane was positively obsessed with marrying Batman, how depressingly heteronormative. She was later killed off in the 1970s and went unseen for decades. Then in the 20th century Kate Kane was reinvented as the gorgeous Jewish lesbian we all know and love.
Now Kate Kane is coming to the Arrowverse and her own series where she can be as glamorous and gay as she pleases. And who more appropriate to be glamorously gay than Rose? Amen to that.
